Mark used to be a big deal in the killer-for-hire world. He wasn’t one of the best, he was the best. He was the Pale Horse. But when Mark tries to balance being a killer and having a normal life, he quickly realizes he can’t have both and after a bloody Christmas, he quits killing cold turkey and joins a 12-step program. After a year and nine steps, Mark is on his way to completing his journey from monster to man. Until a mysterious assassin shows up, tries to kill Mark, and starts stalking him—and everyone he cares about. Determined to learn who’s trying to kill him, Mark sets out on a global trek, dodging all kinds of attacks, without killing anyone in the process. Between the sarcastic first-person narration, action scenes, plot twists, and quirky dialogue, Hart has put together a total page-turner. Assassins Anonymous does rely a little too much on the dialogue to do the heavy lifting (aka character development) at times, but it does allow him to showcase Mark’s quirky personality and makes us root for him to stick to his new code.
