The Remnants – Robert Hill

Forest Avenue Press | Paperback | March 15, 2016

Hill's latest novel The Remnants is set in a town full of residents with "oddities" due to the shrinking gene pool. His main characters: Three of the town's oldest members. Hill's language is playful and inventive. No one can contest the man has a gift with language. And although the novel is told from a number of perspectives (that all overlap with one another) he is able to create distinct characters whom readers will immediately be able to recognize. With that said, there is little dialogue in this book and even less scene work, which can leave readers struggling to get through Hill's whimsical (yet dense) exposition. Though this is an enjoyable read, it will certainly take some determination to get through.
