What is Publishers Marketplace?

If you’re looking to keep your finger on the pulse of what’s happening in the publishing industry, a great site to check out is Publishers Marketplace. You can track book deals, sales, and reviews, find literary agents and editors, as well as learn about the latest publishing news and job openings.

Back when I was interning at Folio Literary Management, I used Publishers Marketplace’s archives a lot to search past books deals and sales records for comparable titles (titles that are similar to your own work that gives people an idea of what your book is about). And when I was working with St. Martin’s Press, I loved keeping an eye on the deal of the day to stay up-to-date with what kinds of books were getting picked up by publishers—I still do.

But while Publishers Marketplace is a great resource, not all the features it offers are free, and to become a member you’ll need to pay a fee of $25/month. To be honest, unless you’re working in the publishing industry I wouldn’t recommend getting a membership right away. However, if you’re interested in learning more about what things you get exclusive access to with your subscription, see this video.
