The Verdict: Borrow It or Maybe Just tune into her podcast

In The Great Money Reset, CBS News announcer and podcast host Jill Schlesinger outlines 10 steps people can take to make the most of their wealth and live the life they want. Schlesinger’s voice is clear and her prose is concise. She knows what she’s talking about and is passionate about personal finance. However, while the title and jacket copy makes it seem like anyone can afford a money reset, Schlesinger’s primary audience for the book is individuals who are ready to retire or thinking about retiring early. There is an assumption that you have already built your wealth and have been working a job that makes $200,000+ a year for several years. There isn’t any advice for those who make less or at the start of their careers. Instead, the 35 and under crowd is given a “tough noogies” line. While Schlesinger has built a clear step-by-step guide, it doesn’t seem like there is anything groundbreaking in the book that you would be able to learn by listening to her podcast or tuning in to CBS News. In fact, it appears to be one of those cases where writing a book was merely a marketing decision to reach a bigger audience.
